Book Review: The Breakdown

What would you do if you saw a car pulled over to the side of the road but, due to pounding rain, failed to stop only to find out later that the driver was murdered? Would guilt keep you from speaking out? For Cass, the guilt is compounded by a sense of unease as she begins to forget things. Others might be able to pass it off as stress, but Cass knows her own mother had early-onset dementia. It doesn't help that she feels the killer is after her because she continually receives phone calls with dead air on the other end of the line. Is she being watched? Will the killer come after her next?

The audio version of The Breakdown offered excellent narration by Georgia Maguire along with a bonus interview with the author (always a plus in my eyes). I was thoroughly engrossed in the story and marveled at the author's expertise in detailed plotting. It was a very well-done psychological thriller. Now, I'm eager to check out B.A. Paris's other bestseller, Behind Closed Doors. If it is as suspenseful as this one, it is sure to be a riveting read.
